MEDINA

10 Market St, Aberystwyth SY23 1DL, United Kingdom, WALES

What is Medina?

Medina correctly describes itself as a casual-chic Mediterranean café, serving very fresh food, homemade cakes etc as well as being fully licensed/off licensed. I shall get onto the cinnamon bun rating in just a mo however, the real highlight is the restaurant itself- offering brilliant lunch and dinner options that kept me coming back time and time again. It is light, healthy (DELICIOUS!) and various with the choices (vegan friendly options). Whether it’s the flavourful main or the inviting atmosphere, this spot is an extremely popular choice for a banging meal.

The bun

Now onto the bun, although it’s probably not a good thing that I didn’t dive straight into talking about their cinnamon bun, not because their bun was bad (which it wasn’t) but I need you readers to understand how lovely the overall Medina experience is as an eatery.

Their cinnamon bun rates an overall 8/10, due to its slightly bready texture, giving it a satisfying chew that pairs well with generous cinnamon sugar glaze. A spending cost of around £2.50 and probably being the second to largest bun I’ve had far (largestbunhere) I think it’s a great find for anyone looking to indulge without breaking the bank. While its tasty enough to make you consider grabbing another on the go, it’s not the standout of Medina.

The shell (outside of the bun) was a bit tough and certainly had a rip to it when taring the dough to pull off a piece. The inside didn’t get gooey but was beautifully soft, fluffy and had a big punch of cinnamon… which is the spice we are all here for, right!

I would have this again!

Where is Medina?

The cafe is located in a seaside town in West wales, on a little street which offers a lot of inside seating and seasonal outside seating on the street. There isn’t much street parking close by but there are pay of parking placed dotted around the town.

Wales

What Is there to do in Wales?

The Coast

Wales is beautiful. It’s go wild coastlines, rolling hills, and cute little towns—it’s perfect for a relaxed escape or action packed adventure holiday. Along the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park you’ve got stunning beaches like Barafundle Bay and Whitesands for a scenic stroll or a bit of sunbathing one day a year due to the notoriously rubbish weather. The coastal path has epic views and hidden coves and for something extra, you can hop on a boat to Skomer Island to see puffins if you’re there in spring or summer.

For a bit of history, check out Pembroke Castle and Kidwelly Castle. Both are massive, seriously old, and super cool to explore. One of my favourite places to visit in Wales is Tenby. Its got beaches, lovely campsites with amazing views, a handful of nice restaurants and the beach. About a 1hour drive away is St Davids (officially the UK’s tiniest city!) are also worth a wander, with their colourful streets, quirky shops, and cozy pubs and cafés.

If you’re feeling adventurous, the coast is great for surfing, kayaking, or even coasteering. Pembrokeshire Coast

Coasteering: Pembrokeshire is actually the birthplace of coasteering! You’ll find excellent coasteering experiences around St Davids and Abereiddy, with options to explore sea caves, cliff jumps, and natural rock formations. Back in the beginning of 2023 I used “stdavidsescapes” when going coasteering! They were brilliant! There are other guided tours available too, so do some research.

Surfing: Freshwater West and Newgale Beach are popular surf spots with consistent waves and surf schools for all levels. Freshwater West is also known for its rugged beauty and has some of the best waves in the UK, though it’s best suited for more experienced surfers. I have been lucky enough to enjoy Newgales waters, and highly would recommend this spot for some surfing! The campsite of which we stayed in was across the road, along with the surfboard rental shop, making it a really easy, fun couple of days surfing.

Travel

If my missions is to find the best cinnamon tasting thing in the world then surly i’ll need to venture away from the UK.
